Kids Enjoying SoundPlay

1. SoundPlay Sense'sations (Grades K-8)

Tailored to Classroom / Library Setting
Duration: 45–75 minutes

Overview:

An immersive introduction to pure sound tones, Himalayan and crystal singing bowls, air chimes, thunder drums, ocean drums, and guided vocal toning by SoundPlay Works™. Perfect for neurotypical and neurodivergent students experiencing world instruments such as gongs, singing bowls, air chimes and tuning forks for the first time.  This hands-on approach of demonstrating how to give and receive sound sparks curiosity and wonder while introducing elements of mindful well-being, playful sense of sound and vibration in a class atmosphere. Each student receives a “My Sound Sense” sheet providing them with the opportunity to artistically design where the vibrations, tones and and humming were felt.

Components:

  • Listening to live tones that naturally quiet classroom chatter
  • Seated breathwork and gentle mindful movement
  • Artistic expression: colouring or drawing the “rainbow colours” of sound vibrations perceived by the body, heart and mind.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Heighten sensory awareness and intuition
  • Foster concentration, calm, and engagement
  • Build early habits and emotional self-regulation

2. SoundPlay Centres – Collaboration Giving and Receiving Sound

Grades K-12 | 45 –75 minutes | 2 facilitators| Music Room, Half-Gym, Library

Overview:

This highly interactive workshop focuses on collaboration, communication, and shared learning through sound. Students engage in both whole-group and small-group experiences, exploring how sound can be created, exchanged, and shaped within a group.

Working in small groups of 6–8, students rotate through structured SoundPlay Centres where they practice giving and receiving sound using a range of instruments. Through guided facilitation, students co-create simple soundscapes, building awareness of group dynamics, cooperation, and attentive listening.

Learning Objectives:

  • Explore sound as a form of communication and collaboration
  • Develop skills in active listening and group participation
  • Understand how individual contributions support collective outcomes

Student Outcomes:

  • Enhanced cooperation, teamwork, and peer connection
  • Strengthened listening and attention skills
  • Increased confidence in creative collaboration

Aligning with Curriculum & STEAM Programming

All presentations are thoughtfully designed to align with provincial educational standards, particularly in Arts (Music, Visual Art, Drama, Dance), Science, Math, Health and Well‑Being, Equity and Inclusive programming.

  • Embeds cross‑curricular learning: e.g., visual art meets sound in mapping vibrational experiences; math and science through exploration of frequencies and harmonics
  • Supports STEAM integration by reinforcing scientific inquiry (sound physics), technology (frequency measurement), art (visual and performance), and creative expression
  • Encourages active participation and reflection, strengthening confidence, intuitive intelligence, and emotional awareness—key aspects of children’s holistic healing and overall well-being

Immersive Experience

SoundPlayWorks’ Kids SoundPlay presentations offer immersive, experiential learning that nurtures sensory intelligence, mindful awareness, and creative thinking. Whether with younger children exploring pure tones or older students integrating sound science into visual art and technology, each session fosters grounded self-awareness and supports provincial curricular outcomes. Sound, as a form of embodied education, becomes a bridge between STEAM disciplines and student well‑being, strengthening confidence, curiosity, and self‑expression through vibration and  voice. 3. Drum Pulse & SoundPlay

Grades 4-12 | 45 –75 minutes | 2 facilitators| Music Room, Half-Gym, Library

 Rhythm & Breath — SoundPlay for Self-Regulation

Two Groups of 15 students |30-minute modules, back to back

Program Overview

SoundPlay Works™ brings experiential learning to life through rhythm, breath, and mindful sound practices. Designed to complement Ontario’s Social-Emotional Learning and Arts Curriculum, this 60-minute session supports students’ emotional regulation, focus, and sense of community through creative engagement with sound and movement. Each workshop invites students to discover how rhythm, breath, and vibration can positively influence attention, mood, and nervous system balance.

Module 1 — Intro to Drumming (30 minutes)

Students are introduced to rhythm as a shared language of connection. Through body percussion and drumming activities, they explore tempo, dynamics, and teamwork. The session emphasizes emotional expression through sound and builds collaboration and confidence in a safe, playful environment.

Key Highlights:

  • Discover and create rhythmic patterns using percussion instruments and body percussion.
  • Develop listening and cooperation skills through call-and-response activities.
  • Experience rhythm as a tool for self-expression and group cohesion.
  • Reflect on the connection between rhythm, heartbeat, and emotional state.

Module 2 — SoundPlay + Breath for Self-Regulation (30 minutes)

Building on the energy of the drumming session, students transition into sound and breath-based techniques that foster calm, awareness, and focus. This module introduces simple tools to support nervous system regulation and mental clarity—skills that students can use throughout their school day.

Key Highlights:

  • Practice Breathing techniques the body and experience sounds that uplift and fascinate
  • Explore sound-based relaxation using gentle instruments like chimes, tuning forks, singing bowls, and ocean drums.
  • Experience how body tapping, vibration and humming activate a nervous system reset, increasing focus, presence and calm.

4. Hands-on Harmonics – The Science of Sound

Grades 7–12 | 45 –75 minutes | Half Gym or Library

This inquiry-based workshop introduces students to the science of sound through hands-on experimentation and guided discovery. Using acoustic instruments and visual demonstrations, students explore how sound behaves and how it can be measured and understood.

Key concepts such as vibration, pitch, frequency, resonance, and volume are explored through interactive activities. Visual demonstrations (e.g., cymatics) help students make connections between sound waves and observable patterns.

Components:

Audio Visual Presentation
  • Dynamic instrument demonstrations followed by opportunities for each child to experiment
  • Mindful movement and group sound-play
  • Discussion of basic scientific sound concepts: frequency, resonance, dissonance, decibel levels, Hertz
  • Short video demonstration of cymatics science vs. music in a class-friendly setting
Learning Outcomes:
  • Develop foundational knowledge of acoustic phenomena
  • Practice collaborative sound-making and listening skills
  • Connect sound to bodily awareness and creative expression through focused soundplay.
Curriculum Connections:

Health & Physical Education | The Arts (Music) | Social-Emotional Learning

Components:

  • Rhythm & Connection: Students experience rhythm as a shared language through body percussion and group drumming that foster cooperation, confidence, and self-expression.
  • Breath & Sound Regulation: Gentle instruments and humming techniques help calm the nervous system.
  • Creative Reflection: Learners connect sound, movement, and feeling, building sensory awareness.

Learning Outcomes

  • Strategies for self-regulation are modeled and imparted as a resonant learning experience
  • Awareness, focus, and emotional balance are honed through collaboration and cooperation
  • All senses are engaged in the learning process
